What an eaves protection system actually does
The eaves are the lower edges of the roof where the tiles, felt, fascia board and guttering all meet. They have a demanding job. Rain runs down the roof covering, beneath the bottom course of tiles and towards the gutter. If the felt has deteriorated, water can run back behind the fascia or miss the gutter altogether.

Access is already in place, old boards can be removed carefully and the condition of the timber underneath can be assessed properly. There are limits. If the tiles are badly damaged, the roof covering is near the end of its life or water has travelled far back into the roof structure, the work may need to be coordinated with a roofer. The difference between a proper fitting and a quick fix

A contractor should not simply cap over rotten timber, fix a new fascia to an unstable backing or hang fresh guttering where the water path behind the tiles has not been addressed.

Finally, do not assume every roof needs exactly the same ventilation arrangement. The correct approach depends on how the roof space is insulated and ventilated already. A small detail with a long-term payoff
Eaves protection is mostly hidden once the work is complete, so it is easy for a contractor to cut corners there. Yet this unobtrusive part of the roofline can protect the timbers, help the guttering receive water where it should and keep the lower roof edge performing as intended through hard rain and winter weather.
